Is Nicklaus record safe

This weekend I was watching the World Golf Championships at Firestone and was thinking about the future of Tiger Woods and it made me think that perhaps he won’t pass Jack Nicklaus’s record and that perhaps this is a good thing. Tiger has already broken most golfing records and I think Nicklaus should keep the record for the number of majors won.
Tiger has played against a relatively weak field of golfers and very few would compare the likes of Mickleson, Westwood, Stricker, Duval, and Montgomerie to players like Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, Lee Trevino, Gary Player and the great Seve Ballesteros. Nicklaus picked up major victories over a twenty four year period playing against some of the other greats of the game from different generations. Tiger annihilated the golfing world between 1997 and 2008 winning 14 majors but has rarely had to play against players of the calibre of those Nicklaus regularly beat.
If you look at the all time record for majors won and you seen that Player has 9, Watson 8, Palmer 7, Trevino 6, and Ballesteros 5 whereas Tiger’s closest competitor in modern times is Phil Mickleson who has won only 4 majors. Whilst Mickleson may have won more if he was playing in a different era he would have struggled in the era that Nicklaus, Palmer, Player and Watson dominated.
Anyway, that was just a thought that came to me in between watching the golf and playing poker. My online rake back poker went pretty well with a number of tournaments all reaching the late stages and my cash games delivering some steady returns. It wasn’t smooth throughout but I ended up on every cash game table I started and that hasn’t happened for a while.
My rakeback payment also came in recently so that is why I have been playing MTTs. The rakeback pokerbonus is always a good time of the month for my bankroll as it comes as a large lump sum and boosts my bankroll enormously. I always then fire up a load of MTTs to try and parlay it into a big score. Probably not the most profitable thing to do with it but I’m pretty happy overall.

United Stroll the Community Shield

The season has now started for all the lower league teams and Manchester United and Chelsea enjoyed a run out at Wembley with the Chelsea team looking a shadow of their former selves from last year. The World Cup has left several players with a footballing hangover that from the looks of it will take at least a month to shift.
The game was controlled by United from start to finish and when Chelsea did manage to score United were simply stung into action and scored again to ensure they won by two in a game they never looked likely to lose. There have been many stating that United aren’t strong enough and don’t have the depth in midfield but with a young squad partnered with the experience of players like Scholes and Giggs they look to be maturing into a very strong title challenging team.
Chelsea have some problems to overcome this year with players like Lampard, terry and Cole all struggling for fitness after their dismal World Cup showing. The marquee signings haven’t materialised and this has left the Chelsea squad looking weak in comparison to their closest rivals. It will be a big season for Chelsea with Manchester City now in possession of the biggest cheque book.
My weekend was spent watching my team lose at home and then a day and a half on the poker tables. I am currently looking to book a holiday to Vegas and need to earn some serious money. I’m multi-tabling my heart out trying to boost my rakeback from www.rakeback.co.uk and hopefully earn enough to pay for my holiday and a good sized bankroll for when I am out there.
I have enough saved at the moment from online rakeback poker to lose several buy ins at $1/$2 but would prefer to warm up at these and then move up to higher limits where the rake is less painful. If things go well over the next month at the online rake back poker tables and with a good rakeback payment I should get to my target and be ready for Vegas in September. Fingers crossed!
